Separate from your insurance

In case of an incident, individual insurance policies are not affected. No record will be left on your personal file. You can lend and borrow without worry!

In case of an accident

If the car is immobilized and no longer drivable.

  1. Contact Desjardins Insurance directly, specifying that you are renting the car through LocoMotion. The information is available in the logbook.
  2. Notify the owner that a file has been opened with Desjardins Insurance.
  3. Fill in the accident information on “Report an incident“.
  4. LocoMotion forwards the necessary information to Desjardins Insurance.

If the damage is minor and the car can still be driven, continue driving.

  4. LocoMotion forwards the necessary information to Desjardins Insurance

Desjardins Insurance will recommend a body shop to perform the repairs (and provide a courtesy car to the owner, if needed).

For payment of repairs
Desjardins Insurance settles the bill minus the deductible amount, which is the responsibility of the borrowing member (“renter” in the contract).

The deductible varies depending on the type of claim and the value of the car

Contact the repair shop to settle the portion of the bill that is your responsibility (either the deductible, or the total repair amount if it is lower).

Payment must be made before the repairs are completed, as the car can only be picked up once payment has been made.

Once payment is made, the car is returned to the owner.

Don’t worry, the incident doesn’t prevent you from borrowing a car in your neighborhood again.
